During the period of 2015 earthquake, about 89% of schools in 23 of the earthquakes’ affected districts were damaged or completely destroyed. Out of these, in 8,242 public schools, 25,134 classrooms were fully destroyed and 22,097 schools were damaged. While in the private schools, 956 classrooms were fully destroyed and 3,983 were damaged. The impact was way higher in the community schools than in the private sector. In Gorkha district alone it is reported that 90% of the schools had collapsed or had severe damage.
This was the time that Karunamaya Foundation Nepal stepped forward to support children and youths, with love and kindness, as our name suggests, in becoming independent and capable youths contributing towards the socio-economic development of the nation and the world by improving their access to formal and/or vocational education and personal development since we understand that not every child can excel academically while they might be a talent in other areas such as music, sports, etc. We find it extremely important, possibilities in life are not merely limited by the ability of a child to excel academically, though minimum levels of education need to be ensured. Our mission is to encourage children and youths to dream and guide them in realizing the unlimited possibilities of life by working hard towards their dream.
