Agriculture training courses enhance farmers' skills in modern agriculture, organic farming, commercial farming, biofertilizers, biopesticides, offseason farm ing, market establishment, high-value crops, crop rotation, irrigation, insecticides, and post-harvest storage. These skills increase yields, protect crops from weather shocks, and stabilize income. With the goal of preparing the farmers to manage organic farms, produce various crops and livestock for domestic and international markets, promoting commercialization, modern technology adoption, and improving rural livelihoods.
Karunamaya Foundation Nepal started its agriculture program from December 2022, through 6 days agriculture training to the Chepang people of Makaising, Gorkha in collaboration with the agriculture department of Gandaki Gaunpalika, Gorkha. Furthermore, we have successfully cultivated a variety of green leafy vegetables within the school premises, establishing a thriving kitchen garden.
The primary objective of our kitchen garden initiative is to ensure a sustainable source of vegetables for the midday school meals, thereby bolstering the school's self-sufficiency and enhancing its economic sustainability. This year, we have undertaken the planting of over 400 saplings, encompassing a diverse range of fruit-bearing trees. In collaboration with our esteemed partner, Shree Tanglichowk Secondary School, a technical institution specializing in agriculture, we are placing greater emphasis on expanding our kitchen garden for increased production in the upcoming year.
Through our combined efforts and strategic partnerships, we are committed to not only providing nutritious meals for our students but also fostering a more economically sustainable school environment. This collaborative endeavor underscores our dedication to the long-term prosperity of our institution and community."
